Iām offering reamers in dense tropical hardwoods now. This is a significant upgrade in wear resistance and rigidity from the standard reamers that I make in hard maple. The most recent batch is made from Purpleheart. It is hard, like stone.
This is a large scale six degree reamer intended for creating the tapered mortises that are one of the foundations of Windsor chair joinery. The reamer is used to transform a cylindrical hole into a tapered mortise. The combination of a reamed mortise and a matching tapered tenon form a joint that mechanically locks together and is simple and efficient to produce.
These reamers are made made of super dense purpleheart wood with a 6 degree taper and have a working range in holes from 1/2 inch to 1-1/4 inches in diameter. The total length of the tool is about 15 inches and the working length (the portion with the blade) is a little over 9 inches. There is an adjuster screw that presses against the back of the blade to adjust the depth of cut. The handle is reamed into the main body of the tool from the right hand side when looking at the adjuster screw and can be tapped free for storage or transport.
International shipping will be added after purchase. I can ship to most countries for $60. There are new tariffs in place that will not show up on the cost here that international customers may have to pay to customs in the country of delivery. This is confusing and hard for me to accurately estimate on a country by country basis. Please take this into consideration.
